Manifesto of the New Prosthodontics
Function Integrated with Esthetics in Treatment Planning – the Digital Patient Avatar

Aleksander Malinowski

Introduction
Modern technology is developing at an extraordinary pace, particularly in the field of tools used in prosthodontics. However, rapid progress in hardware is not matched by updates to medical protocols, which should reflect the new possibilities offered by contemporary digital systems. Manufacturers of prosthodontic equipment are often detached from clinical reality and lack direct contact with patients. They tend to perceive prosthodontics selectively—focusing on isolated features rather than the entire therapeutic workflow.
As a result, even dentists open to innovation may view these technologies as unattractive. They are still forced to perform parts of treatment analogically, and each new feature introduced by manufacturers appears as a separate, disconnected add-on—frequently perceived as a marketing gimmick rather than a meaningful clinical tool.
In my view, however, we are witnessing a technological revolution that enables the transfer of all aspects of treatment planning, design, and dentist–laboratory communication into the digital realm. By creating a digital patient avatar, it becomes possible not only to design the final prosthodontic reconstruction and implant positioning, but also to maintain full control over the laboratory workflow even before tooth preparation begins. This represents an entirely new paradigm—not merely a technical shift, but a transformation of the treatment philosophy itself.
