Jakub Jankowski, Kacper Nijakowski

Abstract

The paper aims to present a clinical case of root resection (radisection) as an alternative to tooth extraction. A patient presented with pain in the region of tooth 16, which served as an abutment for a fixed ceramic bridge. Radiographic and clinical examination revealed extensive distobuccal root caries with associated bone loss in the furcation area. Considering the favorable condition of the remaining roots, the stability of the prosthetic restoration, and limited access to implant treatment, distal root resection was performed in a local mission clinic in Jamaica according to endodontic surgical principles. Postoperative follow-up showed uneventful healing and resolution of symptoms. Root resection can be an effective and justified alternative to extraction of multirooted teeth, particularly in settings with limited access to advanced dental care.
