Zagrożenia dla zdrowia i ryzyko stosowania bisfenolu A (BPA) – monomeru kompozytów stomatologicznych. Przegląd piśmiennictwa

Dangers to health and risks of using bisphenol A (BPA) – monomer of dental composites. Review of the literature
Mateusz Zybko

Hasła indeksowe: bisfenol A, BPA, stomatologiczne materiały rekonstrukcyjne, toksyczność, uszkodzenia DNA

Summary
Dental restoration materials, i.e., composites, are widely used in medicine because caries is one of the most frequent diseases of contemporary society. Composites are currently retained in the human organism throughout life. Up till now it has been said that polymers contained in composites are permanently bound to the hard dental tissues. This statement is mistaken, but the clinical success connected with the use of these materials completely obscures the discussion as regards the biological safety of these compounds. Monomers
from composites may be directly released into the oral cavity or into the blood circulation of patients or medical personnel alike. Bisphenol A may give rise to many side effects such as disturbances of the immune and nervous systems, eliciting mutations in the DNA helix. It also increases the risk of neoplasms, reduces fertility and stimulates premature puberty.

Key words: bisphenol A, BPA, dental restorative materials, toxicity, DNA damage
