Wpływ witaminy D3 na zdrowie jamy ustnej

Infl uence of vitamin D3 on oral health

Abstract
Vitamin D3 is a steroid hormone playing a significant role in maintaining homeostasis of the whole organism and its deficit can manifest also in the oral cavity. In children, vitamin D3 deficits can lead to disturbances in tooth mineralisation, resulting in defects within the enamel and dentin, and also increase the susceptibility to caries. Vitamin D3 defi cits have a negative impact on the healing and regeneration processes of periodontal tissues, as well as enhance the severity of infl ammatory processes. Vitamin D3 supplementation increases the odds of success in regenerative procedures within the periodontal tissues. Moreover, vitamin D3 plays a role in progression of head and neck area cancers by regulating processes, such as apoptosis and proliferation in cancer cells, leading to tumor growth inhibition. This literature review aims to present the relationship of vitamin D3 deficits and supplementation with oral health.
