Autorzy pracy przedstawili szczegółowo schematy podstawowych czynności resuscytacyjnych (BLS – Basic Life Support) u dzieci i dorosłych w świetle najnowszych wytycznych Europejskiej Rady Resuscytacji z listopada 2005 roku w stanach nagłego zatrzymania krążenia u pacjenta w gabinecie stomatologicznym. Zwrócono szczególną uwagę na znaczenie wczesnej defibrylacji automatycznym defibrylatorem zewnętrznym (AED) w stanach nagłych. Podkreślono rangę umiejętności udzielania przez lekarza stomatologa optymalnej pomocy i skutecznej resuscytacji w stanach zagrożenia życia zwiększających szanse na przeżycie pacjenta.
 

The authors describe in detail the outlines of Basic Life Support in children and adults in the light of the latest Guidelines of the European Resuscitation Council from November 2005, in cases of sudden cardiac arrest in patient in the dental office. Particular attention is paid to the significance of early defibrillation with an automatic external defibrillator (AED) in sudden cases. The level of ability of the dentist in giving optimal help and effective resuscitation in sudden life threatening cases is underlined, in that it increases the chances of survival of the patient.
