Use of povidone-iodine in periodontal practice – advantages and limitations of action

Jan Kowalski

Streszczenie
Skuteczna eliminacja biofilmu bakteryjnego jest kluczowa w uzyskaniu powodzenia leczenia periodontologicznego. Jodopowidon (PVP-I) jest możliwym do przewlekłego stosowania środkiem przeciwbakteryjnym, mającym stosunkowo niewiele przeciwwskazań , i może stanowić cenną alternatywę lub wsparcie dla  obecnie stosowanych antyseptyków do higieny jamy ustnej.

Abstract
Effective elimination of bacterial biofilm is a key factor for the attainment of success in periodontal treatment. Povidone-iodine (PVP-I) is a possibility as a source for chronic treatment used as an antibacterial agent having relatively few contraindications and may be a valuable alternative or support for currently used antiseptics for oral hygiene.
